Editor’s Note: A misinterpreted press release regarding former Deer Isle-Stonington High School standout basketball player and Husson University Athletic Hall of Famer Sharon Siebert led to an article in our January 3 sports section with news that was reported on 17 years ago. The article reported Siebert was recently inducted into the Husson Hall of Fame; however, she was inducted in 2001. Siebert and her fellow female 1,000 point scorers at Husson University were honored at halftime of the women’s basketball team’s home game against the University of Maine at Fort Kent on Friday, December 14. The article also reported Siebert resides in Deer Isle; it is her twin sister Susan who lives there, while Sharon lives in Holden. We apologize for the errors.

Siebert was a four-year player on the Eagles basketball team from 1988-91, during which time she became the school’s all-time leading scorer, with 1,882 career points. She was also the only player in program history to score 1,000 points and record 1,000 rebounds. Her jersey was also retired years after her graduation.
She ranks first in field goals made (698), first in field goals attempted (1,393), first in free throws made (484), first in free throws attempted (617), first in rebounds (1,031), fourth in rebound average (9.4 percent), fifth in free throw percentage (.784 percent), sixth in games played (110), and seventh in field goal percentage (.501), according to a press release from Husson University.
Siebert was also a member of the softball team during her time at Husson, where she ranked third all-time in stolen base percentage (.976) and 10th in most stolen bases (41). In single-season records, Siebert ranks first and sixth in stolen base percentage (1.000 and .955) and tied for seventh for most stolen bases (21).
In high school, Siebert was part of the 1987 Class D Girls State championship basketball team. Siebert and her team were the first girls basketball team in school history to bring home the gold ball. She and high school teammate Jennifer (Shepard) Mayo were the only two players on that championship team to go on to play basketball at the college level.
Siebert played her high school ball under the direction of coach Kendall McGuffie. Twenty-one years later, she now lives in Deer Isle.
