Blue Hill—After a year away from the team, Stormi Wentworth is back at the head of the George Stevens Academy softball team.

Wentworth has been coaching the Eagles on and off since 1998 and led the team to an Eastern Maine Championship title in 1999. After the 2000 season she stepped away from the program for work and family reasons, she said, but returned in 2015. A back surgery sidelined her during the 2017 season, but she has returned with an eagerness to help her team grow.

“I enjoy being a part of GSA softball,” said Wentworth. “I am enthusiastic about the sport.”

Wentworth has been a part of George Stevens Academy softball since her high school days, having played for the team from 1974 to 1977.

Coming back, Wentworth said she was very excited to be involved with the program again.

“I knew I had a positive group of girls and they would be eager to learn,” she said.

As a coach for the better part of the last 20 years, Wentworth remains passionate about working on the softball field with the younger generation.

“I enjoy teaching young ladies skills,” she said. “[Anywhere from] ages 6 to 18.”

Wentworth said she would describe her coaching style as “enthusiastic,” which has allowed her to coach teams with various skills and abilities throughout the years.

In addition to playing for George Stevens Academy during her high school years and joining the program as a coach, Wentworth stayed active in the sport of softball itself, playing for slow pitch summer softball on a team called The Wild Ones. The team advanced to the national tournament during the height of its existence.

Despite struggles making it past the regular season over the last few years, Wentworth remains optimistic about the future of the program, and in her ability to have an impact on the team.

“I want to be a positive part of the program,” she said.
