GSA Eagles cruise past Fort Kent in playoff semifinal Will face Fort Fairfield for Class C North title

BANGOR—The top-seeded George Stevens Academy Eagles overcame a sluggish first quarter to pull a 76-53 victory over #5 Fort Kent Warriors in a Class C North semifinal February 23 at the Cross Insurance Center.

The Eagles were first to score with a lay up from senior Max Mattson  less than one minute in but Fort Kent pulled ahead 3-2 and kept their lead for a first quarter finish with GSA trailing 12-11.

Senior Taylor Shildroth opened the second quarter for the Eagles with a three pointer followed by a quick jump shot, and GSA soon extended their lead 34-23 to end the first half and continued to a 51-39 lead heading into the final quarter.

At the buzzer, the Eagles walked away with a 76-53 victory and will face #2 Fort Fairfield tomorrow night for a chance at a third Class C North championship at the Cross Insurance Center. Tip off is about 8:30 p.m., following the girls championship game at 7 p.m.

Schildroth led the Eagles with 30 points, senior Stefan Simmons scored 17 points,  Mattson added 11 and junior Reece Dannenberg seven.
