Blue Hill—George Stevens Academy senior runner Eliza Broughton’s fifth place finishes in 55-meter hurdles and the two-mile run highlighted the indoor track team’s final meet of the season at the Class B State Finals at Bates College on February 17.

Broughton was also part of the 800-meter relay team that finished in fourth place, along with seniors Mary Brenna Catus and Mary Richardson and junior Gabriyah Gadsby.

Catus recorded a top-10 finish of her own during the meet, finishing sixth in the 800-meter run.

As a team, the girls finished with 12 points, good for a three-way tie for 11th place with Cape Elizabeth and Mount Dessert Island.

The sole top-ten finisher on the boys side was junior Meredith Bradshaw Thomas, who placed sixth in the 800-meter run.

For head coach Tony Rolfe, the end of the indoor track season is only the beginning for many of his runners, as training for spring outdoor track is only weeks away.

“We will have a short break and then spring track starts in late March,” he said.
