Blue Hill—The Eagle varsity boys basketball team begins their tournament Tuesday, February 20, with a matchup against either Houlton or Lee Academy.
The first team is untested for George Stevens, and the second team gave them their first Class C loss in two seasons back in December. The Eagles revenged that loss last month.
“Lee is quick, and we match up with Houlton well physically and size wise,” Coach Dwayne Carter said. “We will prepare our game plan depending on who wins.”
The Eagles began tournament preparation with a 65-35 win against Greenville, the top seed in Class D South, for the Penobscot Valley Conference championships February 12.
“We went in with the mindset that it was a tournament game and played it that way,” Carter said, noting that the score was close until the second half, “a reminder that every team will bring their ‘A’ game.
“Our strong intense defense has been key for us all season and will be a key for us in the tournament.”
The Eagles’ experience in tournament play will also pay off, Carter said. “This bunch of athletes has played together in a lot of big games….There is always a lot of hype, but we focus on us and going out with strong defense and having fun.”
