Blue Hill—In back-to-back home games, the George Stevens Academy varsity boys basketball team won by margins of 65 points (Narraguagus) and 42 (Central), continuing its dominance over Class C teams.

“We are in the final stretch of the regular season and starting to play well,” Coach Dwayne Carter said. “Our defense has been solid and will continue to be a key to our success.”

The two-time defending state champions boast a 13-1 record, their only loss coming in the season’s opening game against Lee.

Against Narraguagus January 26, senior Taylor Schildroth led with 26 points and 10 rebounds and senior Max Mattson scored 15 points and seven rebounds, as the Eagles rolled to a 99-34 victory after holding the Knights to a 26-2 first quarter. Senior Stefan Simmons added 13 and sophomore Caden Mattson 12 points.

Hosting Central January 29, the Eagles jumped to a 25-0 first-quarter lead on the way to a 78-36 win. Schildroth led with 19 points and eight rebounds, while junior Reece Dannenberg added 13 points.

“We have made great strides in our level of intensity which has really shown at the beginning of games as we have put teams away early,” Carter noted.

The playoffs are edging into sight and while Carter said the team continues to focus on one game at a time he is also keeping an eye on the Heal Point Standings.

“We have some key point-worthy games left in Ellsworth and Mattanawcook which will be key to finishing at the top of the class C standings and avoiding a preliminary playoff game,” Carter said.

Tipoff at Ellsworth High School on Friday, February 2, is at 7 p.m.
