BUCKSPORT—The George Stevens Academy Eagles rolled to a 66-33 win over the Bucksport Golden Bucks on January 13 for their 11th-straight win of the season.
Bucksport kept a tight grasp on the Eagles’ lead early in the game, going into the second quarter only down by five. George Stevens answered with an explosive 17-point second quarter while allowing Bucksport just three points, taking a 36-17 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The GSA defense was suffocating in the second half, as Bucksport only scored five points in the third quarter. Both teams came alive offensively in the fourth, as GSA scored 18 points to Bucksport’s 13 as the Eagles cruised to the victory.
Taylor Schildroth led the Eagles with 24 points, while Max Mattson netted 16 points on the game.
The GSA Eagles are now 11-0 on the season and first in Class C North standings. The team has averaged 77 points per game and has held its opponents to an average of 47 points per game.
Coach Dwayne Carter said that his younger players have improved “greatly,” which has added depth to the squad as the season has progressed. One thing he said his team will continue to work on moving forward is becoming better on the defensive end of the court.
“As always we will take it one play, one practice and one game at a time,” said Carter.
The Eagles are back in action Friday, January 20, with an away game at Searsport District High School.
