MMA Mariners women win on the road and at home

The Maine Maritime Academy women’s basketball team won back-to-back games, 54-37 at Colby-Sawyer on February 2, and 59-55 at New England College February 3, where the Mariners surged ahead after being tied 50-50 with 6:10 left to play. The team followed up their winning weekend by crushing University of Maine at Presque Isle 68-33 at home for a 14-7 overall season record, 9-5 in New England Conference games, with four games left in the season.

The MMA men’s team wasn’t as successful, losing at Colby-Sawyer 74-64, and New England College 79-82. At New England, the Mariners pulled within one point with 14 seconds left on the clock before New England made four from the foul line for the win. The men are 3-18 overall and 2-12 in NEC games.

Maine Maritime hosts three  games this week: Friday, February 9 vs. Johnson State, women at 5:30 p.m.,men at 7:30 p.m.;  Saturday, February 10 vs. Lyndon State, women at 1 p.m., men at 3 p.m.; and Wednesday, February 14, vs. Thomas College, women at 5:30 p.m., men at 7:30 p.m.

Games are played in the Smith Gymnasium at Maine Maritime Academy in Castine.
