Blue Hill—Capping a stellar season for the George Stevens tennis program that saw the varsity girls and boys teams each win the Class C North title, the teams fell to perennial state champion Waynflete Academy in straight matches.

The boys lost their eighth straight championship match, and their 11th since 2002, to the Portland school—in spite of GSA’s strong program that produced 13 regional titles for  the boys team and six for the girls this century.

The boys last won the state title over Waynflete in 2004, while the girls have yet to take that title.

In single matches, Ben Politte fell 6-2, 6-0; Boris Chen 6-0, 6-0, and Bryant Hsiung 6-0, 6-3. In doubles, Kent Fang-Arlo Stabler fell 6-3, 6-1, and Rhett Cheng-Christian Jones lost 6-4-6-2.

In the girls’ matches, Lindsay Nevin lost 6-1, 6-0, Julianna Allen 6-1, 5-7 (10-3); Tatiana Heggestad 6-2, 6-1, while doubles teams Lillie Maier-Courtney Bianco lost 0-6, 6-4, 7-5 and Chloe Politte-Yvonne Rogers lost 6-4, 6-3.
