Deer Isle—The girls softball team lost a doubleheader on Saturday, May 13, to Katahdin 25-10 and 18-10. In The first game, Brittany Gray and Lily Gray did the pitching. The Katahdin pitcher was fairly fast and it took us a round or two to get the timing down. By that time, we were too far behind to catch up. Katahdin hit the ball hard and it caused us to make a few more errors than we have been making.
Brienna Limeburner got the home crowd fired up with a 2-run homer over the left field fence, Lily Gray 3 singles, Abby Stinson 2 singles, Katie Hutchinson a triple, and Brittany Gray, Madison Frazier, and Danielle Montoya each with a single.
The girls lost the second game 18-10 where we kept close to them but couldn’t catch up. Lily Gray and Deja Benner did the pitching. We hit the ball well, Brienna Limeburner a double and a single, Abby Stinson with 2 singles, Brittan Gray a double, and Lily Gray, Madison Frazier, and Katie Hutchinson each with a single.
The girls are 2-4 but showing that they understand what they need to do to get better. We are hitting the ball well and putting up runs. The defense has its ups and downs, but we are making good plays as the players get used to their positions. Our big challenge is to get at least one consistent pitcher to limit walks and passed balls, giving the other team too many freebies. Being so young, all this will take a little time.
