Deer Isle—The softball team lost on May 3 to Schenck 10-6. Brittany Gray did most of the pitching, but the backup pitchers haven’t found their consistency yet. We are hitting the ball well. Abby Stinson had 3 singles, Katie Hutchinson had 3 singles with 3 RBIs, Madison Frazier had 2 singles with 2 RBIs, Amy Friedell had 2 bunt singles, and Brienna Limeburner had a bunt single.

Coach Darian Gove mentioned that Stinson and Limeburner turned two double plays and made good plays on hard hit balls. Good defense will be critical while we develop more consistent pitching.

On May 6, the girls lost a close game to Machias 13-11. Though we pounded out a lot of hits and stole double digit bases, we couldn’t limit Machias to less runs. This is a game we will win when we see them again.

Limeburner had 4 singles with 5 RBIs, Hutchinson had 2 doubles and a single with 4 RBIs, Lily Gray had 2 doubles and a single, Stinson and Brittany Gray each had 3 singles, Frazier had 2 singles with 2 RBIs, and Kristin Thompson had 2 singles. Lily Gray and Hutchinson each stole 5 bases and Stinson and Haley Hardy each stole 3 bases.

The girls pulled out their second win of the season on May 8, beating George Stevens 14-9. Our defense was solid and we hit the ball very well to take this game. Kaley Eaton made a couple of nice grabs in center field and Limeburner ended the game with an unassisted double play.

Brienna Limeburner had a triple, a double and 2 singles with 2 RBIs, Lily Gray had a double and 3 singles with 3 RBIs, Brittany Gray had 3 singles with 3 RBIs, Hutchinson and Stinson each had 3 singles with an RBI, Thompson had 2 singles with and RBI, and Hardy had a single and 3 sacrifice bunts with an RBI.

The girls are 2–2 and are really starting to come together. We have done a lot of bunting successfully and that can mess with another team’s defense when done well, shades of Richmond in the 2010 State Championship game. Our defense is turning some hard plays and we are starting to communicate better. We are developing faster than I thought and with our offense doing so well, we will look better sooner rather than later this year.
