Deer Isle—The tennis teams each lost their season opener on April 24 to George Stevens 5-0. We did have earlier games postponed because of weather, to be played later. In listing the teams and initial positions below, without much practice, everything is still fluid. Both teams have several freshmen taking on big challenges. How they develop will determine how successful we can be.

For the girls tennis team, seniors Jordyn Judkins will start at #1 singles and Jess Trainor at #2 singles. They both have strong varsity experience at single play. At #3 singles, freshman Marissa Judkins, Jordyn’s sister, is enthusiastic for the challenge.

Juniors Orly Vaughn and Riley Getto will start at 1st doubles and junior Madison Eaton and sophomore Adeline MacDonald will tackle 2nd doubles. Without much time for practice yet, we will be working on improving as the weather is finally warming up.

For the boys tennis team, junior Devin Emrick will move up to #1 singles. Transfer student Rodrigo Cespedes loves tennis and is enthusiastic about the challenge of #2 singles. Freshman Benjamin Penfold will take on the #3 singles but has been playing tennis for several years on his own.

Junior Ennis Marshall and freshman Ian Cust will take on 1st doubles and junior Oskar Mattes will play with either freshman Mason Plummer or Cullen Cochrane at 2nd doubles. Both Ennis and Oskar have experience and hope to bring the freshmen along with more play.
