BLUE HILL—The George Stevens Academy girls and boys swim teams wrapped up their regular season against Hampden Academy on February 4, with the girls taking first by a score of 84-74 and the boys coming in second, 42-90.
The team is led by seniors Emma Larson-Whittaker, Maya Pelletier and Evan Soukup, who were all first-place finishers during the meet against Hampden Academy.
“[Those three] have provided outstanding leadership and some great swims,” said Coach Don Driscoll.
Junior Ava Sealander continued her winning streak, finishing top in the 200 yard individual medley and the 100 yard butterfly, and as part of the 200 yard and 400 yard freestyle relay teams. She has been dominant for the Eagles this season, finishing first in every event she has competed in. Her times, according to Driscoll, are some of the best recorded in the state this season.
Driscoll is encouraged by the team’s supporting cast of lower classmen, who provide the extra kick the team has needed to be successful this season.
Juniors Ellie Gellerson, Laura Liu, Elana Bakeman and sophomores Jeremiah Scheff, Alex Yap and Katie Forest led the team in points for underclassmen, he noted.
The boys team will compete in the Penobscot Valley Conference championship on Friday, February 10, at the University of Maine in Orono, while the girls championship is scheduled for Saturday, February 11, at Husson University. The Class B state championship is scheduled for Saturday, February 18 (boys), and Monday, February 20 (girls), at UMaine, Orono.
