Deer Isle—The girls soccer team lost to Narraguagus at Narraguagus 3-0 on October 5. We just couldn’t repeat the magic we had in our first match-up with them. We didn’t have the energy, perhaps from the long bus ride, and we got down early and never were able to recover.
We lost a similar game on October 7 to Bangor Christian 4-0. We got behind in the first half as Bangor Christian was able to punch in several goals behind the defense. We played a much better second half by moving the ball down the field with good passing, but we just weren’t aggressive enough around the goal to get one in the net. Jessalyn Gove and Mo Morey shared the goalie duties in this game. Near the end of the game, Gove saved the ball on a penalty kick.
The girls are 1-8-2, still in 15th place, and unfortunately lost the momentum we had carried from the last week. We are passing well and are more aggressive to the ball, but need to find a way to get more good shots when we get down near the goal. The effort is there and there are a lot of players who still play 60 minutes. We just need to keep working together. We have three games in four days to finish the season.
