BLUE HILL—The George Stevens Academy golf team qualified third in a field of 10 teams in the Penobscot Valley Conference championships Thursday, September 29, at JATO Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln. The third-place-finish in Class C gave them berth in the State Championships, which are scheduled for Saturday, October 8, at Natanis Golf Club in Vassalboro. The individual State Championship matches are scheduled for the following weekend.

Sophomore Percy Zentz, who has led the team in low scores for most of the season, shot an 87 on the day, good enough to qualify for individuals at States. Teammate Jarrod Chase, who has finished closely behind Zentz in several matches this season, shot a 90 on the par 72 course, which also qualified him for the State Championships.

“We’re going to give it a good go,” said head coach Dwayne Carter before practice Tuesday afternoon. “We haven’t been playing as well as we should be, but I think they’re fairly confident going into the weekend.”

The top four qualifiers in Class C advanced to the State Championships. Mattanawcook Academy finished in first place, with Houlton coming in second. Greenville finished behind George Stevens Academy in fourth place.
