DIS boys soccer team edged out by Sumner Scott's Sports Spot

Deer Isle—The boys soccer team lost their first game this week 1-0 to Sumner but followed it up with a 3-1 victory at Machias on October 4.

Against Sumner on home field on September 28, we played much better than our first time with them and the play was very even for each team. Sumner scored their goal near the end of the game on a shot that Ethan Shepard jumped to get. He stopped it but it popped out of his hands and a Sumner player was able to tap it into an open net. An unfortunate end to a well-played game in goal. From our side we had many different players make good shots on goal. Arthur Peixoto made a direct kick that bounced down off the cross bar but stayed out of the goal.

The boys are 2-8 in 16th place and 2 places out of the playoff picture. Aside from Bangor Christian and George Stevens, we have a game with Machias, and two games with Jonesport ahead, all worth the points we need if we can stay focused. We are playing much better, and with some wins in those games, we have an excellent chance to getting to the playoffs again this year. We are playing well at the right time.
