Sullivan—The George Stevens boys and girls cross country teams took home firsts at the 10-school Seacoast Invitational in Sullivan on September 23.
Eliza Broughton swept the 39 girl runners for a first-place win. Her 20:36 finish was “an excellent time on a challenging course,” Coach Erich Reed said.
Zeya Lorio placed second at 21:24, Tess Williams anchored fourth, and Bella Cimeno and Emma Larson-Whittaker placed 12th and 13th for a team score of 26, less than half of second-place Narraguagus.
Running a 19:13 race, Max Mattson placed third but earned first-place points for the Eagles, with the top two finishers competing only as individuals. Deer Isle-Stonington’s Brendan Penfold took first at 17:57. Freshman Caden Mattson placed 6th, Tyler Varnum 8th, Beckett Slayton 11th and Sean Schweizer 16th towards a 30 point team win. The Eagles final score was helped by five of the top 15 not scoring team points.
The teams compete at Belfast Festival of Champions on Saturday, October 1, and then host the Hancock County Championships on October 7.
