LEWISTON—In what has become a familiar pattern, the George Stevens Academy tennis team followed up its Northern regional title with a loss at the state championships to their perennial foe, Waynflete Academy, for the seventh straight year. But they can still take pride in their seven straight regional titles.

“Waynflete is a very talented program. I’m proud of my team and all that they accomplished this year,” Coach Mark Ensworth wrote in a post-match email. “We gave ourselves a chance to win it on Saturday, which is all you can ask for as a coach.”

With the doubles team of Kent Fang and Christian Jones the only match winner, triumphing in three sets, singles players Matt Stephens, Beowulf Urban and Ben Politte and doubles team Aidan Byrne and Leif Lyon-Miller lost in straight sets.

The Eagles finish a standout year 13-3, holding the top ranking in the Northern region.
