Deer Isle—The girls softball team lost to Bangor Christian 14-7 on May 18. Natalie Knowlton pitched well with 9 strikeouts and only 3 walks, but Bangor Christian hit the ball hard and found the gaps as we only had 3 errors. They jumped on us for 8 runs in the first two innings, and though we kept pace with them after that, we couldn’t overcome that hole.

We also hit well, with Jesslyn Gove a double and a single with an RBI, Natalie Knowlton 2 singles and 2 RBIs, Haley Hardy and Lilly Gray each with 2 singles, Madison Frazier and Kristin Thompson each with an RBI single, and Sadie Rice a single.

The girls lost to Greenville 12-3 in the first game of a doubleheader on May 21. We didn’t have any real bad innings, but Greenville scored multiple runs and built their lead. Natalie Knowlton pitched for six innings and Lilly Gray pitched the last inning. We didn’t help ourselves with 4 errors. We didn’t hit as well, with Lilly Gray getting 3 singles and Madison Frazier a double and a single with an RBI.

The girls lost the second game 18-2. We had a disastrous first inning, giving up 10 runs. Lilly Gray started off pitching and had control issues. She had pitched well in the first game but walked many batters in this one. On top of that, we committed errors to give Greenville too many outs. Everything seemed to go south with us. Natalie Knowlton finished out the game, but we had gotten buried by then. Lilly Gray had 2 singles, Sadie Rice an RBI single, and Haley Hardy a single.

The girls have only the one win and continue to struggle with consistent play. As our youth catches up to speed, we commit mental errors as well as not keeping a sharp focus throughout the game. We have five games left and can get a little momentum for next year with a couple wins.
