GSA Eagles over Ellsworth, all around

BLUE HILL—Quick bats and strong base running led the George Stevens Academy Lady Eagles softball team to a 6-3 victory over the Ellsworth Lady Eagles Thursday, May 19, while the George Stevens Academy baseball team held off a late Ellsworth run in the seventh inning to take a 3-2 win.

After letting up two Ellsworth runs in the first two innings, the softball team drove in three runs to rally back from a 1-2 deficit, taking a 4-2 lead in the third. The team tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning and held off Ellsworth in the top of the seventh to get the win.

Olivia Stevenson had two singles and four RBIs for George Stevens, while Katrina Limeburner contributed two doubles and an RBI. Pitcher Allyson Snow had four strikeouts.

In baseball action, George Stevens drove in an early run in the first inning before adding two more runs in the third. The Eagles bounced back defensively in a difficult top of the fourth.  Ellsworth loaded the bases but were unable to score more than one run after relief pitcher Taylor Schildroth picked off an Ellsworth runner at first base for the inning’s final out. Ellsworth went on to score a run in the seventh inning to close the gap to one, but George Stevens was able to hang on for the win.

The boys holds the top ranking and are 11-1, while the fourth-ranked girls are 5-7 Both the baseball and softball teams will be in action Saturday, May 21, 4:30 p.m. at home against Dexter.
