Deer Isle—The boys baseball team lost a close game to Schenck 4-2 on May 4, then lost a May 10 rematch 15-4. In the first game, Ethan Shepard pitched a flawless game until it fell apart in the bottom of the fifth inning when a big hit and a couple of errors opened the floodgates and Schenck scored their 4 runs. Ethan Shepard gave up three hits and struck out seven in the losing effort. Schenck only managed four hits total, but our five errors did us in.

We fought back for two runs in the sixth, but couldn’t get any more in the seventh. We did come through with solid defense in the bottom of the sixth inning when we pulled off a 1-2 3 double play with the bases loaded and one out to get out of the inning. That is pitcher to catcher to first base double play. We got singles from Krisford Melanio, Mason Oliver, and Ethan Shepard.

In a May 6 game, the boys beat an outmatched Jonesport team 27-0. After twoinnings, Coach Randy Shepard did everything he could to keep us from piling on more runs, but Jonesport errors gave us more runs anyway. Silas Bates pitched well, giving up one hit with 10 strikeouts.

The boys are 2-3 and have a busy week ahead. We have all the pieces to do well. We need to get some more offense going as we have a good pitching staff and have shown decent defense to back them up.
