Deer Isle—The girls got their first win on May 6, beating Jonesport 17-5. We jumped out with nine runs in the first inning and we benefited from 24 walks overall by Jonesport pitches. We hit the ball better with the slower pitching. Natalie Knowlton pitched well with seven strikeouts and seven walks, as well as benefiting from much better defense behind her.

Lily Gray had 4 singles with an RBI, Madison Frazier had a double and a single with 2 RBIs, Jesslyn Gove had 2 singles with 3 RBIs, and Kristin Thompson had 3 RBIs.

The girls softball team lost to Schenck 16-1 on May 4, then 13-0 in a May 10 rematch at home. We had only one hit in the first game, but we got our bats on the ball better than we had against Machias. Natalie Knowlton pitched a decent game giving up only four hits with eight strikeouts and nine walks. What gave Schenck so many opportunities were the five errors and passed balls.

Amy Friedell got our lone hit on a bunt single and advanced home on a passed ball for our only run. We are playing better but need to build the confidence for this young team.

The girls are 1-3 and are still adjusting to the fast speed of pitching. We are still on the beginning end of the learning curve and the faster we catch on, the better we will do.
