Eagle track team shines at MDI meet

Mount Desert Island—The Eagle boys team topped two events and placed second in five of the 17 events at the MDI track meet on April 30, driving the team to a third-place overall finish behind Mount Desert Island and Caribou.

Junior Erik Taylor-Lash won the 1600 meter race walk with a 15-second margin, and placed second in the pole vault, while distance runner and junior John Hassett took the 1600 meter run.

In the 100 meter hurdles, junior Alex Taylor-Lash finished a bare .03 seconds short, for second place, while the 800 meter relay team of senior Griffin Shute, juniors Ollie Dillon and Trent Williamson and freshman Meredith Thomas grabbed second place.

Sophomore Ian Ramsay placed second in the triple-jump to round out the Eagles’ top placers.

The girls team took second, behind Caribou, with six first-place finishes.

Junior Morgan Dauk dominated the javelin event, throwing it 119.02 feet for a 21-foot margin over the next best throw.

Senior Hanna Gutow won the 3200 meter run, while junior Hanna Jordan won the 400 meter dash by a hair.

Sophomore Mazie Smallidge took the 100 meter hurdles and the triple jump, while junior Bella Cimeno won the 300 meter hurdles.

Relay teams with Cimeno, Smallidge, Dauk and sophomore Eliza Broughton (400 meters) and Gutow, Broughton and sophomores Zeya Lorio and Mary Richardson (800 meters) each topped that event.

Individual meet results determine who qualifies for the Penobscot Valley Conference championships on May 28 and the state championships on June 4.
