BANGOR—With three seconds left in the third quarter, Deer Isle-Stonington senior Allyson Eaton scored her high school career 1,000th point, after stealing a rebound for a runaway lay up that brought the home crowd to its feet and the #6 Mariners to within two points against Shead in a quarterfinal playoff game. But Shead, ranked third, ran away with the game in the fourth quarter, handing the Mariners a 34-22 loss at the Cross Center in Bangor on February 13.

A score tied at seven at the end of the first quarter slowly swung in Shead’s favor by half time, despite the #3 team fouling into bonus early in the second quarter. Both the Lady Mariners and #3 Shead were in double bonus before the first half buzzer, with Deer Isle-Stonington shooting 1 and 1 from the foul line early in the second quarter. The half ended 20-16 in Shead’s favor, thanks to a strong zone defense.

The Mariners switched to the same tactics in the third quarter while both teams kept their fouls down.  Ending 23-21, Shead’s two point lead to open the fourth quarter widened to five with four minutes on the clock, and then to a final 34-22. The Mariners end their season at 8-11.
