Deer Isle—The boys basketball team lost its only game this week, on January 2, to Greenville 47-40. The game started similarly to the first time we played them, but the difference is that we didn’t recover from the first quarter deficit, trailing 17-9 after one quarter and 27-15 at the half.

Unfortunately, we waited until the fourth quarter to attack the rim and did close in on the lead, but it was too late. We needed to capitalize on our inside strength like we did in the first game with them and weren’t able to do that. Noah Davis led us with 13, Krisford Melanio 12, and Mason Oliver 8.

The boys are still with their one win and face a tough road stretch in the next week, going to George Stevens, Machias, and Searsport. We need to keep our heads in the game and play four strong quarters. We have played a lot of close games and we have shown good defense. We don’t have a dominant scorer, but we have all the pieces to do well if we use them together and keep our focus. The right players need to get open to take their shot.
