BLUE HILL—The Eagle varsity boys are plowing through the competition this season, holding the top spot in the northern Class C Heal Point Standings with a 7-0 record.
The team won their last three games, against Sumner, Lee Academy, and Penquis, by over 20 points, with the December 22 home game against Penquis a 70-39 blow out. In the lopsided matchup, Khemani Peasley lead GSA with 16 points,Max Mattson tallied 15 and 10 rebounds, Taylor Schildroth scored 14 and Will Entwisle contributed 11. Nick Szwez grabbed 12 rebounds.
The question now is, which team can take them to the wall during the regular season? With long-time nemesis Orono bumped up to Class B, and no games against them on the schedule, a January 2 match up against Class B Ellsworth should test them, especially with no home court advantage. Bucksport, who played a first half point for point against the Eagles earlier this season, before falling 21 points behind by the end of the game, could again push the GSA team when they meet next month.
The real competition appears to lie in the southern division against the top three teams, Wiscasset (7-0), Dirigo (6-0) and Winthrop (6-0), none of which the Eagles will meet until tournament time at the Cross Center.
The Eagles travel to Searsport on Tuesday, December 29, with a 7 p.m. tip off.
