The girls soccer team lost a close game to Greenville 2-0 on September 24. This was a game that went evenly back and forth. Sadie Rice had a good performance in goal to keep the score down. We had opportunities for goals but couldn’t get one in. I didn’t get a shots-on-goal count, but it was pretty much the same for each team. This is a game we can win with a good effort the second time around.

The girls lost 7-2 to Schenck on September 26. We had a flat first half and Schenck was up 5-0 at the half. We played a much more inspired second half, with Lily Gray scoring on a cross pass from Ashley Haskell and Natalie Knowlton scoring unassisted. To play the second half so well is good news with the smaller number of players that we have with this year’s team. We will need to use that conditioning strength to finish the close games.

With a recent 1-0 loss to Sumner on September 29, the girls are 0-7 and still looking for a win, but we have shown definite progress in putting things together. We have been working on playing together and trying to incorporate all the younger players into the system. Right from the start of the season, we knew it would be a learning curve, and we are progressing. With just about half of the season behind us, I am looking for the girls to get the win to give them the confidence that the boys are showing.
