Eagles cross country teams takes first at Sumner

The boys and girls raced to wins at  September 25 meet at Sumner, with five schools competing as teams in the boys race and 10 entering individual runners. Senior Will Entwisle ran a 15:43 2.55 mile for first, followed by Oliver Dillon in second, Oliver Broughton in fourth and Aylen Wolf in fifth. Brendan Penfold, out of Deer Isle-Stonington, took sixth with a 16:13 time, less than one second behind Wolf and Broughton. The boys scored 18 points, with second-place Lee at 62, Machias and Washington Academy tied at 82,  and Bucksport at 119.

The girls took first with 15 points, followed by Washington Academy at 73, Machias at 76 and Lee at 78, with individual runners from 10 schools. Eliza Broughton raced to 17:38 first place win, followed by Zeya Lorio, Mary Richardson and, in fifth, Hanna Gutow.

The GSA and Mariner runners will next compete in the Festival of Champions at Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast on Saturday, October 3, at 11 a.m.
