Consistency is the key, according to Coach Dwayne Carter, for his “relatively young” golf team. In early matches, the team took Ellsworth, but fell by four strokes to Bucksport in one meet, then lost to Mount Desert Island at home.
At home against Sumner on September 8, the Eagles won, and the next day, won against Calais 206-211 and Sumner. For both matches, Sumner did not have enough players for a team score.
Matches against Mount Desert Island and Hermon on September 10 resulted in two losses, with MDI 171, Hermon 202 and GSA 212. Matches on September 14 at Bar Harbor saw the Eagles lose to Calais and John Bapst but win against Ellsworth.
Golf is an early season sport, with playoffs just a little over two weeks away. The Eagles’ record stands at 5-6, with three more matches until playoffs.
“We are working hard to cut strokes down,” Carter said after the final match.
