BLUE HILL—Class C George Stevens Academy Eagles took on the Class D Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners at home on September 9 and came away with a 8-0 win. It was a lonely game for new Eagle goalkeeper Bess MacArthur, as senior Alyssa Chesney led the Eagles offense, keeping the ball solidly on the Mariner’s side of the field. Mariner goalkeeper Ally Eaton blocked and blocked again before Morgan Dauk slid in one goal and solidly kicked in a second. By half time, it was 4-0, with goals by Mazie Smallidge—who tipped the ball off a kick, dunking into the net like a basketball—and Nellie Haldane.

The Mariners didn’t get shut out from lack of trying. The girls who went foot-to-foot—and head-to-head—against the Eagles, much as they did in their season opener against Schenck, falling 6-0 on September 5.

The Eagles are 1-1, after a 3-0 loss to Orono on September 5—their next home game is today, September 11 against Washington Academy at 4 p.m., weather permitting.
