DISHS boys lose but are playing much better

Deer Isle—The boys baseball team lost to George Stevens 10-0 on June 3 in a game where we had a much better effort than earlier in the season when we played them in Blue Hill. Krisford Melanio pitched the first two innings and Noah Davis pitched the last four.

Our offense was not potent enough to get runners across as Silas Bates had two singles and Noah Davis had one. GSA was able to string solid hits together several times to get their runs, along with a few of our miscues. Steven Cochrane made a couple highlight reel catches in the outfield to keep more runs from scoring.

The boys lost a close game to Bangor Christian 4-3 for a fitting end of the season. Krisford Melanio pitched the entire game, giving up two earned runs in the first and only two unearned runs after that, with a few strikeouts, but causing many ground balls which we managed to field well in this game.

We trailed 4-0 when we started hitting in the sixth inning. Noah Davis and Silas Bates each had singles. Tyson Rice then drove Noah home with a single. Later, Zach Ladd singled to load the bases and then Mason Oliver singled home Silas Bates and Tyson Rice. In the next inning, Noah Davis got on base, but we couldn’t get him home. One of our best efforts, despite it being a losing one.

The boys end their season at 2-12, but end it on a positive note with a couple well played games. Bangor Christian is a solid Class D team that plays a tough schedule, so we did well to hold our own with them. This should give us some confidence and incentive to work hard and start next year on a stronger footing.
