Deer Isle—The girls softball team lost a heart breaker to Schenck 3-2. Natalie Knowlton pitched well, with eight strikeouts, five walks and seven hits. We played well enough to win, out hitting Schenck, but not getting the timely hits we needed. After giving up a run in the first inning, a couple errors cost us and Schenck scored two more runs in the third. We were able to get two runs back in the bottom of the fourth, but neither team could get a run across after that.
We started the bottom of the seventh just how we wanted to. Natalie Knowlton and Logan Eaton got on base without any outs. I really thought we had the momentum and were going to pull it out. After Morgan Shepard struck out on a high fast ball, the runners advanced to second and third. Both Holli Boyce and Ashley Haskell hit the ball, but right at a fielder, and Schenck made the defensive plays they needed to end the game.
We hit well, but couldn’t get one when it counted. Logan Eaton had three singles, Allyson Eaton and Orly Vaughan each had two singles with an RBI, Natalie Knowlton and Holli Boyce each had two singles, and Ashley Haskell, Jesslyn Gove, and Madison Frazier each had a single.
The girls are 5-7 and in 14th place, the last playoff position, by just a small fraction of a Heal Point from 13th, with two games left. For some reason, one of the Jonesport wins has not been factored in, which may bump us up to 13th. We have a big game with George Stevens this week, which would give us a better position. We need to start well against them and not get in a hole like we did earlier in the season. Whatever happens, we will be traveling up to the County for a preliminary game.
