DISHS tennis teams cling to playoff spot Scott's Sport Spot

The girls tennis team lost to George Stevens 4-1 on May 12. The highlight of this match was a marathon win by Jordyn Judkins in the number 2 singles match 9-7 (9-7). Allison Cormier lost a close match 8-5 at first singles and Justine Rhys lost 8-3 at third singles. At doubles, Alison Eaton/Jess Trainor lost 8-2, and we forfeited the other doubles.

The girls lost to Sumner 4-1 on May 18. Allison Cormier won first singles 8-4, Jordyn Judkins lost second singles 8-4, and Justine Rhys lost third singles 8-1. In the doubles, Veronica Pezaris/Jess Trainor lost 8-2, and the other doubles was forfeited.

The girls are 2-8 and still are in 12th place where the top 13 are in the playoffs. We didn’t manage a win this week, but we are playing hard and are improving. Hopefully, we can fill a full slate of players for our last few matches and make it into the playoffs.

The boys tennis team lost to top seeded George Stevens 5-0. Matt Duddy lost 8-0 at first singles, Paul Zoephel lost 8-1 at second singles, and Cameron Wendell lost 8-1 at third singles. In the doubles, Cody Eaton/Justin Eaton lost 8-3, and Marvin Merritt/Devon Emrick lost 8-2.

The boys lost a close match to Sumner 4-1 May 18. Matt Duddy lost at first singles 8-3, Cameron Wendell lost at second singles 8-6, and we won the third singles by forfeit. In the doubles, Cody Eaton/Justin Eaton lost 8-5 and Marvin Merritt/Gordon Richardson lost 8-6.

The boys are 1-6 yet they cling to the 12th place which is the last playoff spot. With a few matches left, we are hoping to get some wins to stay in the playoff hunt, though it is pretty sure that we will be traveling.
