Eagles tennis starts season strong

The Eagles began their season with back-to-back wins, against Dexter at home, on April 25 and at Sumner on April 29. Here’s the break-down.

The boys rolled over their opponents 5-0 for both matches. In first singles, Tate Yoder  won 8-2 in matches on both days. In second singles, Nate Boechat won his matches at 8-0, and in third singles Lucas Theoharidis went 8-1 against Dexter and Dexter 8-3 at Sumner. First doubles team paired Tim Dentino and Matt Stephens, who went 8-3 and 8-2, while second doubles team Peter Wu and Rowan Levangie Thomas went 8-2 at Dexter and got a walk-over by forfeit against Sumner.

The girls went 4-1 over Dexter but faced a tougher 3-2 win  against Sumner. First, Dexter: Adrian Van der Eb won first singles 8-2, while in second singles Abby Frost won 8-4. Second doubles team pairing Hunter Morris and Tatiana Heggestad went 8-1. First doubles team Jenna Gray and Lindsay Nevin fell 8-3, while third singles Erin Niehoff won by default. Against Sumner, Sophia Chen won her first singles match 8-0 and second doubles team won 8-2, while first doubles team Jenna Gray and Lindsay Nevin won by forfeit. Second singles Adrian Van der Eb and third Claire Yue both lost their matches 8-6.

The teams play at home on May 4 v Lee Academy, 3 p.m., and on May 6 against Deer Isle-Stonington at 4 p.m.
