Retired Island athletic director recognized for distinguished service

On Thursday, April 2, retired athletic director Matt Larsen was honored at the 44th Maine Interscholastic Athletic Administrator’s Association Spring Conference at the Samoset. Larsen who retired this fall after 30 years of service received the Robert Boucher 7th Player Distinguished Service Award. The spirit of the award is to recognize the versatile athletic director job description. Qualified nominees are individuals who have committed years of service to Maine High School Athletics and its student-athletes. The award is given to an athletic administrator who has dedicated selflessly to his or her community and its athletic program. Special emphasis is given to the candidate who has worked behind the scenes doing necessary tasks on a day-to-day basis, while often going unnoticed. Larsen was recognized for his 30 years of outstanding service to the MIAAAPVC and to the students and community of Deer Isle-Stonington.
