Bangor—The Eagles faced #7 Orono in the Eastern Maine Class C boys quarterfinals on February 18 at the Cross Insurance Center and never quite got up, falling 68-57.

Senior Kelsey Allen led GSA scoring with 21 points, freshman Taylor Schildroth contributed 10 and junior Nick Szwez scored nine.

Allen opened with a layup in the first 30 seconds of play only to see the Eagles lose momentum, falling behind 13-6 by the end of the first quarter.

Szwez fouled twice in the first minute, and was replaced by Max Mattson who filled his shoes nicely by fouling twice and getting called back out.

But the second quarter signaled a turnaround with Schildroth and Allen making their shots and sinking from the foul line. They shrank their deficit to six points, ending the half at 28-22. Strong defensive play heated up the third quarter, bringing GSA within three points, but the Eagles couldn’t match the Red Riots’ high percentage shooting. The fourth quarter opened with GSA struggling to overcome a nine-point deficit at 46-37 and ending the game at 68-57, finishing the season at 16-3.
