With one week left in the regular season, the varsity Eagles look in stand-out shape, boys and girls. Both teams face an intense schedule because of changes caused by recent snowstorms.

The boys notched their 12th straight win in a 60-56 win over Class B Mount Desert Island on January 28, keeping them third in the standings with four games left.

They close out the season at home against #4 Central following games against #11 Bucksport and Class D Searsport. A trip to the Cross Center for the tournament is practically a lock, especially if the team can hold onto that #3 spot and earn a bye for the playoff preliminary game.

Senior Kelsey Allen and freshman Taylor Schildroth may lead in points, but the overall strong Eagles’ defense has brought the team to the top of their class. Waiting for them are the top two Eastern Class C teams in the Eagles’ class, #1 Calais and title defenders #2 Houlton, whom GSA never faces except at tournament time. Stay tuned.

The varsity girls stand at #7 and 8-6. They have four games left, against Class D teams Deer Isle-Stonington, #11 Sumner and #8 Central, before closing out the season at home against the #1 Class B team of Mount Desert Island.  The top 11 teams play a post season prelim game for a chance to play in the playoff tournament. . A trip to the Cross Center  would be a fitting cap for senior starters Alice Dillon and Megan Nowland.
